Electronics

3G-, 4G- and LTE-enabled mobile devices utilize multiband technology, which requires high performance from the devices’ antenna components over a broad frequency range. Antenna engineers have traditionally been limited to power-robbing, high-loss thermoplastic resins, such as polycarbonate (PC) and PC/acrylonitrile-butadiene styrene (ABS) alloys.

ZEONEX Cyclo Olefin Polymer (COP) is a low-loss and low-dielectric constant resin designed specifically to provide improved mobile-device antenna efficiency as a direct replacement of PC and PC/ABS in flex film, metal stamp and Laser Direct Structuring (LDS)-based antenna carrier designs.

Two ZEONEX grades are available for antenna applications.

Low Loss Polymer for High Performance Dielectric Applications

Low Loss and Dielectric Constant

Cyclo Olefin Polymer: Low loss and dielectric plastic. Suitable for cell phone & tablet antenna products. Improves LTE, wifi.

ZEONEX Cyclo Olefin Polymer (COP) exhibits low-loss and low-dielectric constant properties, which can improve efficiency of LTE, GSM and Wi-Fi antennas compared with traditional materials. Also, ZEONEX Cyclo Olefin Polymer (COP) can be used as cost-effective, moldable alternative to fluoropolymers in RF connector and other dielectric applications.

Stable Performance at Multiple Frequencies

ZEONEX Cyclo Olefin Polymer (COP) maintains excellent, uniform electrical properties over the frequencies commonly used for cellular voice, LTE data, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth frequencies.

Low Moisture Absorption

ZEONEX Cyclo Olefin Polymer (COP) is a hydrophobic resin, with moisture absorption ~0.01%. As a result, antenna and dielectric components made of ZEONEX Cyclo Olefin Polymer (COP) show excellent electrical stability in high-humidity environments. In comparison, PC/ABS parts show significant change in electrical properties – leading to detuning of the antenna – after humidity exposure.
