CREATE MORE ADVANCED PARENTERAL PACKAGING WITH ZEONEX CYCLO OLEFIN POLYMER (COP)

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 12, 2007) - Using innovative ZEONEX® Cyclo Olefin Polymer (COP) offers a more advanced, breakage-resistant packaging for protein-based, peptide-based, and high-viscosity drugs, as well as contrast media.

For an increasing number of drug families, the ability for the doctor or nurse to visually check the level and quality of the drug is increasingly important during injection. ZEONEX has a very high level of transparency, making it easier to see the drug.

Another advantage is the sterilization capabilities of ZEONEX. Mechanical properties of devices made from ZEONEX have no significant change after steam, ethylene oxide and gamma sterilization. ZEONEX also has extremely low water absorption, leading to the ability to store the drugs for longer periods.

ZEONEX is ideal for use in pre-filled syringes and vials where transparency, sterilization, breakage-resistance and better stability are important. ZEONEX is tougher than COC plastics, making ZEONEX suitable for larger, more integrate molding where it is less prone to breakage during molding than COCs. Compared with glass, medical devices made from ZEONEX overcome breakage, handling, weight, and disposal concerns with glass.

ZEONEX is also optimal for high-viscosity drugs when there is an increased risk of breakage or contamination during injection; protein and peptide-based drugs where there are concerns about adsorption with glass and lyophilized drugs where there is a concern regarding pH shift of the diluents.

Additional types of drugs where usage of ZEONEX may benefit include hyaluronic acid, insulin, bio-pharmaceuticals, oncology drugs, and contrast media.

ZEONEX can be molded for pre-filled syringes and pen injector cartridges ranging from <10ml to 100ml in size and for vials and bottles ranging from a few ml to >250ml.

ZEON will be highlighting ZEONEX at the 2007 Interphex Conference and Exhibition in New York, New York at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, April 24 - 26. For more information, visit ZEON at booth #1977 at Interphex, phone +1.502.775.2000, or visit us on-line at www.zeonchemicals.com/zeonex.
