LIGHT GUIDE PLATES AND DIFFUSERS

Brighter. Thinner. Less weight. Transcription of micro features.

ZEONORĀ® Cyclo Olefin Polymer (COP) is ideal for creating light guides for CCFL and LED backlit LCD displays for mobile phones, MP3 players, GPS navigation devices, tablets, notebooks PCs, and TVs.

Compared to conventional plastics such as PMMA (acrylic), ZEONOR provides:

 •  Excellent dimensional stability in high heat and humidity
 •  High optical transparency, including to blue light
 •  Excellent transcription for creating patterned gradients and tapered plates
 •  20% lower weight vs PMMA

EXCELLENT DIMENSIONAL STABILITY

ZEONOR and ZEONEX COP are highly hydrophobic. As a result, light guides made from COP resins have extremely low water absorption helping to protect sensitive electronics and maintaining tight dimensional control even in high humidity environments. In comparison, PMMA (acrylic) readily absorbs moisture and undergoes dimension change in high humidity.

HIGH OPTICAL TRANSPARENCY

ZEONOR and ZEONEX COP have superior light transmittance from 300-1200nm, as compared to PMMA. For LCDs using LED backlighting, the higher light transmittance of COP in the 350~500nm range can bring enhanced brightness and uniformity to the display.

EASY TO INJECTION MOLD DETAILED, MICROFEATURES

ZEONOR and ZEONEX COP exhibit excellent cavity release properties during injection molding without the need for additives such as lubricants and release agents. High transcription and low shrink allow critical tolerances and for high precision, tapered designs to be molded.

The pictures show the ability to mold micro gradients using ZEONOR with excellent, sharp replication of the tool surface.

LOWER PART WEIGHT

Switching from PMMA to COP for light guides can reduce the part weight by 20%, enabling lower weight smart phones, tablets, and mobile devices. ZEONOR has a specific gravity of 1.0 compared to 1.2 for PMMA.
